#1 and 4 (four of BC Moore's top teams) are scary tough, along with 6 and 7; the rest are pretty much a walk for the top teams in them. Waverly and West Delaware, the top two teams, have been pretty well protected. In 1 and 4, I can see major upsets in the first round district match-ups; lot of power teams, some with misleading dismal records.
My picks:
Substate 1- SC Heelan
Substate 2- Dallas Center- Grimes
Substate 3- Waverly- Shell Rock
Substate 4- CR Xavier
Substate 5- West Delaware
Substate 6- Mount Pleasant
Substate 7- Pella
Substate 8- Glenwood

Spoilers: Harlan, Dub. Wahlert, Norwalk, Dav. Assumption, Mt. Vernon.

4 is brutal. Just brutal.

I do not get how 4 and 5 were set up. I understand it is not just a geography trip, but it seems like you could have improved the set up and balanced the substate's better.

I agree with makelovenotwar. I think 5 is one of the most pre-destined (for West Delaware) and it intermingles geographically with 4, which is the toughest. Whoever has the home court in the opening games will have a terrific advantage. Games should be played on neutral courts.

I know you don't know the brackets but I'll guess the finals

#1 Heelan over SBL (although if there is any geography these two will meet in the 2nd round)
#2 DCG over Webster City
#3 WSR over Charles City
#4 Xavier over Mount Vernon
#5 West Delaware over ??? It could be Marion/Vinton/South Tama/CPU kind of a cluster after WD
#6 Oskaloosa over Mount Pleasant
#7 Pella over Grinnell
#8 Glenwood over Harlan

Like some of your picks PNation but why Osky over Mt. Pleasant?...have you seen either team play?

I would take Assumption over Xavier....

I think that Mount Pleasant vs. Osky is a toss up game, and would not argue anyone taking Mount Pleasant. I think that Oskaloosa playing in the brutal Little Hawkeye will have them better prepared then the competition MtP has played. I do give MtP credit for scheduling a few challenging games but I think Oskaloosa's record is deceiving when you look at the competition they play and have 4 losses under 5 points.

MtP's schedule leaves a lot to be desired...who have they beat of substance? They should have sent Xavier or Assumption down to substate 6.
I dont get substate 5 either, is West Delaware that good they get a free pass to DM?

Mt. Pleasant can't help the teams in their conference are not very good. They have beaten Harlan and Mt. Vernon, in fact, they've beaten everyone they've played except Xavier and Muscatine.

No one claimed that it was their fault, we are just saying that we think Oskaloosa's very difficult schedule playing in the Little Hawkeye might give them an edge in a game versus Mount Pleasant.

I'd have to go with Mt. Pleasant; besides Sartorius, they have a lot of balance. Osky is definitely a team of the future. And back to substate 4, the more I check out Mt. Vernon, the more I am impressed by them.

I agree that Osky is a team of the future...I think they will be scary good next year IF Xavier stays..rumor has it that he may show up at a certain Des Moines school before school starts.....

I have not seen West Delaware but I have seen Mt Pleasant.

I would like to hear the states rational for sub-state 4...they turned it into the All Catholic sub-state along with tough Mt Vernon and Solon teams.

BC Moore has Assumption #3, Xavier #7, Wahlert #10 and Mt Vernon #12 and then Solon at #30.

Sub-state #5 has West Delaware at #5, Center Point at #26, South Tama at #31, Benton Community at #32, Vinton #36, Marion #41, Williamsburg #49, and Clear Creek at #61.

Sub-state #6 has Mt Pleasant at #4, Osky at #14, Knoxville #27, Fort Madison #37, Chariton #38, Fairfield #52, Washington #56 and Keokuk #59

Oskaloosa has looked very good in the two games I've seen them play - both wins against 2A powerhourse Pella Christian. However, they are still pretty young and are an inconsistent team. They have only one other Little Hawkeye Conference win aside from their two against PC. I think they are a definite threat in this district, though, and it will be a fun match-up should they face Mount Pleasant. I think it's a toss-up too.
