I don't normal roam the 3A board much and I don't follow it as close as I probably should, but I was asked to give 3A a look and see if I could scope out the first round playoff pairings. I'm not going to delve into the district by district look like I do in 4A, as I stated before, I don't follow it as closely. But I did go through all the teams, who they've played and their remaining schedules to make some educated guesses and then the fun of trying to piece together the First Round of the Playoffs. To avoid confusion, like what happened on the 4A board, match-ups will be grouped together as #4-seeds @ #1-seeds and #3-seeds @ #2-seeds. Until the games are played, you have no idea who'll be matched in the following rounds, so there's no point in trying to bracket it. The state only says that #1's will NOT be matched-up in the second round and they'll do everything the can to put match-ups together that do not involved district rematches and still follow the 125-mile guideline they set coming into the season. Here we go...

D-1...
Sioux City Heelan, 6-0
Sergeant Bluff-Luton, 5-1
Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley, 4-2
Spencer, 3-3

D-2...
Carroll, 6-0
Humboldt, 5-1
Webster City, 3-3*
Greene County, 3-3

D-3...
West Delaware, 6-0
Waverly-Shell Rock, 5-1
Decorah, 4-2
Charles City, 3-3

D-4...
Cedar Rapids Xavier, 6-0
Solon, 5-1
Western Dubuque, 4-2
Dubuque Wahlert, 3-3

D-5...
Clear Creek-Amana, 6-0
Davenport Assumption, 5-1
Washington, 4-2
Fairfield, 2-4*

D-6...
Gilbert, 5-1**
Ballard(Huxley), 5-1*
Newton, 5-1
Grinnell, 3-3

D-7...
Pella, 6-0
Carlisle, 5-1
Norwalk, 4-2
Chariton, 2-4*

D-8...
Dallas Center-Grimes, 6-0
Creston-OM, 5-1
Winterset, 4-2
ADM(Adel), 3-3

Not an exact science, but it should give you all something to talk about. Back to the 4A Board I go.

That's a lot of work, screwloose. Thanks. I was just thinking about maybe trying to copy your work on the 4A board, but man ... this is daunting!

Without paired districts and pairings being made up on the fly each round, there's a TON of uncertainty about who might be playing whom when the playoffs come around - not even considering you also have to figure out 1 through 4 in each district.

I miss the point system. I mean, at least for deciding/seeding playoff brackets. You knew where you stood, you know?

Going through the districts was one thing. But figuring the match-ups was much more difficult. There were a few spots where teams were just over the 125 mile rule. But in the end, I was able to come up with a scenario that worked for them all.

You may want to double check your that now District 6 had lost now it is this way

Ballard
Bondurant farrar
Gilbert
Newton

This thread is over three weeks old. Why would I amend it now? It would have stayed down the topics list a buried if you hadn't commented. I commented on another more current thread. Pay attention.

That district 6 has change a lot over the last week. Bondurant farrar has beaten Newton and Gilbert Now Bondurant farrar is in Second place Ballard is in first . Grinnell needs to win next week at home against Ballard. A lot has change with the Newton lost to Bondurant farrar. So their playoff thing are off.

Really, they are the same mediocre teams they were a week ago. Ballard is a bad draw from this district going 0-4.

I realize it's changed a lot. Like I said, this thread is old and would have stayed buried down this list had you not posted on it. I'm not going to change an old thread three weeks after initially putting it out. I've commented on the other more current threads here. What are you not understanding?
