3A Game Talk - West Delaware (25-0) vs. Sergeant Bluff-Luton (16-9)

SB-L has beaten several teams about as good as WD, but WD has not beaten anybody as good as SB-L, so I would say that the team from western Iowa has the edge, but let's let them play the game.

SB-L maintained control of that game from start to finish. Brilliant game from Kroll. WD's bigs played very well but their guards just couldn't hang with SB-L's.

Krull kid completely dominated a non-athletic WD team. He just drove full court for lay-ins all game long. WD a #2 seed was a complete whiff.
Xavier vs SB will be a football game.

SBL is battle tested! They play mostly 4A teams which 7 of their 9 losses come from. Then they have a very tough district to even get to State (Beating a really good Heelan team that could do damage in this tourney as well). They have 3-3 year starting seniors and made the Football Title game a year ago. Xavier plays a tough 4A schedule as well so no surprise they are playing for it all.

I think the title game will be a terrific game. I don't see any big lug football player types on Xavier or SB-L, just a lot of quick, lanky, talented high school basketball players who are used to playing a more physical game---because they have to, to survive their schedule. It doesn't pay to play rough at state, because the refs call every little ticky-tacky foul.

Xavier could threaten to win 3 straight titles with a win over SB. Mims and Jones both back next year and in what could be a down year in 3a. They will be preseason #1 with probably Mount Pleasant and Heelan the leading contenders. MP is returning those terrific guards, lose the big kid though. Heelan is returning it's top 6 players. Wahlert could be strong too with most of it's top players coming back.

They did not call ticky tack fouls in the Xavier -WSR game...they let Phyfe get mauled the entire game and then called a whiff foul with 7 seconds left to try to get Xavier the win....Xavier wins by 10

MP will be #1 out of the gate...Xavier doesn't have much beside Mims and Joens next year...and don't count out Osky with the big fella...

Jackson Wright is a pretty big kid. Going to play on the OL at D2 Sioux Falls. To me he is the key to this team he eats up space, can pass, and has a soft touch around the bucket and FT line.

There'll be a lot of good teams next year. Agree MP will be number 1 because they return everybody and will have the most wins. Osky will be very much better, and they should pile up wins. Xavier will be very, very good, with three starters back, and two of their three best players. But they might not be ranked with the ten or so losses they'll have. Same with Dubuque Wahlert, which won't be ranked, but returns five starters and 7- 8 kids off a terrific soph team that won eight of their last nine in the MVC (and their three top scorers were freshmen). Pella is always good. And undoubtedly several more teams, especially in the western part of the state, where I just don't have a lot of knowledge. I think Sergeant Bluff- Luton has a lot of seniors this year.

Lol not every year apparently....even in championship games.

Didn't see many lanky or true basketball players with potential in that game. Jones and Mims were about it, maybe Bankowski. SBL's Krull was by far SBL best athlete, and a good one but certainly isn't lanky. SBL must have a good coach because that team, besides Krull, wasn't athletic at all. Very impressed by that kid. N'western is getting a good one it looks like.
