Heelan loses to Spencer ! Better get that OC certified. That team has too much talent to be struggling each week. Wonder if former HC Jensen will come back and coach?

Anyone know why Webster City's RB, Zane Williams didn't play against Dallas Center-Grimes?

I see he has 124 carries for 1,113 yards this year, but recorded no carries last night.

Don't the players on the field still have to execute? After watching Heelan play a couple times, I don't think they are as good as everyone on this board says they are. It's always amazing to me how fast fans/parents are to blame the coaching staff.

Three years in a row of 'not executing' with the most talented players in the district, including the only D1 player.
This was to be the year too. A lot of returning starters, including Clark. A strong junior and sophomore class. The team cancers from last year didn't go out. And the coaches are still blowing it. Time for Coach Jansen to come back and rescue the program.

This.

To wit: Spencer had one chance in ten to even stay close with Heelan, let alone beat them. That chance was to at least slow down the run and try to keep it close enough where a key play or two could make a difference toward the end. And the only way they were going to be able to do that was to gamble and stack eight or nine defenders in the box, stopping Clark, and hoping nobody else would beat them. What did Heelan do? Played right into their hands by running Clark play after play right down the middle. After awhile, everybody and their uncle could diagnose the Heelan offense. This instead of getting the ball into the hands of the other playmakers in space, where they could take advantage of mismatches. Their QB, not a drop-back passer by any means, was repeatedly used in that capacity instead of rolling him into the flat where he could toss a dump off pass or use his speed, running the ball. I could go on and on, but their offensive game plan & management make the Iowa offense under Greg Davis look exotic by comparison. Don't think coaching & leadership matter at the high school level? Heelan's previous coach--not exactly known for his stellar play callng and game management--took teams with less talent and experience to 3A title games. After the last couple of years, I think parents and fans are just frustrated watching the kids not being put into a position where they can really use their talents.

There is no way that anyone can possibly think that these guys are as talented as those Heelan teams from a couple of years ago. Yes they have Clark, and the quarterback has sneaky athleticism. Hope, Schiltz and Langley are solid on defense, but no where near the teams of the past. I have seen programs that are playing these kids when they are sophomores and you think by the time they are at the Varsity level they should be standouts, but they never got better from the time they were sophomores to seniors. I'm not 100% blaming execution, but its not all on this coaching staff. Didn't Steffen coach under Jansen, as well as most of these other coaches? The times at the top of the class for Heelan could be coming to an end?

Not asking to beat Dowling, just freaking 3a Spencer and SBL. Not lose in the final minutes every time. The loss of Jansen/OC is the biggest problem. If they come back, Heelan is a title contender again.

Who exactly were the team cancers that didn't go out? Boever was a great target and had more than above average hands. He's the only guy that I can think of that didn't go out.

Not exactly true, on a number of fronts. The '07, '10, '12, and '14 teams were all in the 3A title game (though they didn't represent themselves very well in those games), and none of them had the talent level or depth (especially in the lines) that this group has. It's not up to the level of the '08 & '13 champs, but the raw materials for a champ are there. "A couple of tears ago" the Heelan team lost in the opening round to a wild card.

Steffen, who is a good guy and a good defensive coach, did work with Jansen for a number of years. But a good assistant coach doesn't necessarily translate into an effective head coach.

Talk about overreacting. Heelan is a good team and lost one game by 3 points and another in Overtime. Pointing fingers at the head coach and putting down the opponents and acting like there is no way you could or should ever lose is arrogant. I bet they win the next 3 games and get into the playoffs and then who knows?
Exactly!! Heelan will most likely get it figured out, schedule gets a little easier the next three weeks. Once and a while a team that you should beat will come up and bite you, it happens to them all. Everyone is frustrated because "they aren't playing to their potential", but maybe they are against the bottom of their district, and the teams they're losing to are just better than they are. I see it time and time again with Heelan fans, no credit to the teams they lose to, just excuses as to how the coaches didn't put them in a position to win.

Team cancers? Isn't Boever the only starter that didn't come back? I heard he just didn't like football & contact, not that he was a bad kid. If they have such strong jr/sophmore classes, shouldn't next year 'be the year' or are you putting it all on Clarks' shoulders to carry the team like the coaches do?

If Heelan wanted to be in a situation where they had to have everything line up so they can have "the year", they could have stayed in 4A. In 3A, they should be in a position to contend most years. And with six appearances in the title game in the eleven years since they went to 3A, they've done that.
