District 5

Game of the week
Oskaloosa at Solon ... Solon has played an extremely tough schedule to start the season ... Osky has won 3 in a row since the opening weekend loss to Pella ... An Indian win would make the district race very interesting ... Solon wins 28-14

Washington at Fairfield ... Interesting game in FF ... Demons coming off a loss to Solon, playing a tough Trojan squad ... Demons respond with a 42-20 win

West Burlington/Notre Dame at Keokuk ... WBND has too much speed for the Chiefs .. WBND wins 35-14 to remain undefeated

Fort Madison at Mount Pleasant .... Teams have combined for a 1-7 record ... Mt Pleasant rolls to a 35-7 victory

Solon wins the district if they can beat Oskaloosa. Could easily be a trap after the big game vs Washington last Friday. Wouldn't be shocked to see Oskaloosa go up early, but I also wouldn't be shocked if Solon rolls. Buddy told me they're the most physical team he's seen play in awhile.

Washington rolls. Fairfield will score once or twice when Washington blitzes themselves out of the play but Washington can't be stopped on offense.

WB/ND over Keokuk.

Mt. Pleasant over Fort Madison.

I'm still not sure on Wash. I agree that they should be able to handle Fairfield. They got a lot of love over a couple of skill players, which didn't carry them too far last year. Ranked #1 in some polls. Although it is the same with Xavier, have a couple of skill returners and everyone starts talking dynasty. I don't follow the logic. Norwalk makes it to the finals has their starting QB and some skill players returning, and they are in the middle of top 10s? Not a Norwalker, but trying to follow some people's logic. I thought Solon would be tough, but when they laid an egg against Regina, I start to wonder how tough this district really is?

2 Things IMO on Washinton should never of drop Pella 1st game win or lose you are ready for rest of the year. The other thing is in big games your best players need to be on the field at all times KO,Punt return defense ect.... Kids rally around them it's 3a high school football let him play

I agree on the kick returns. That dropped punt changed the game.

Pella would not agree to play Washington this time around.

I don't think, its an agreement type. Teams list their top 3 choices and if the others have you in their top 3 it gets scheduled. However, there are only 2 non district games and I would think Pella would prefer not to travel almost 2 hours if they can find similar competition(and conference rivals) within an hour. Wash's location is tough for good non-district competition. Not sure that scheduling down 2 2A schools helps, but like I said, location is tough.

Pella is 75 miles. In prior years they were more than willing to travel. Water under the bridge. If Washington wins out, good chance they play in the first round.

Not a strong district from top to bottom.

No district is tough from top to bottom. The state clearly did that on purpose. There's no reason CCA should play east, Solon goes south and Xavier goes north to play Decorah. Each district has 2 maybe 3 good teams and that's it.
