Went through the brackets and, although some are much more difficult than others, I think that the IHSAA and coaches did the best they could in pairing up the various teams in the districts and substates. I didn't see any horrific first round match-ups in 3A or 4A, and in 3A they tried to seed the 32 "strongest" teams against the 32 weakest, to start. In 4A the teams with "byes" deserved them, I thought. As far as "home court" advantage, In 3A, there should be quite a bit of controversy as 12 teams have been granted "Home court advantage" in BOTH district games. Those lucky teams WHO MAY GET TO PLAY TWICE ON THEIR HOME COURT are Boone, Dallas Center- Grimes, Davenport Assumption, Waverly- Shell Rock, Mt. Vernon, West Delaware, Center Point- Urbana, Mount Pleasant, Oskaloosa, Pella, Atlantic and Glenwood. This list includes most #1 seeds and four very lucky other teams. I don't believe I've ever seen this happen before. Obviously, a huge effort to get the top seeds to the state tournament. What do you think?

That doesn't seem quite fair. Spirit Lake has the same advantage in Substate1- their first two games would also be on their home court.
I think this is the first year they have done this, previously the higher seed hosted a first round game and the 2nd round and substate were at neutral sites. This does give an unfair advantage to the hosting schools.

Yeah, interesting move giving the higher seed two home games. I'm not a huge fan, but I guess it does make the regular season that much more important. It will be interesting to see how it works out and if the higher seeds all take advantage of the home court.

So my question is why aren't ALL the top seeds hosting their respective District throughout, barring the fact they win their first game? #1 Seed - Heelan travels to Le Mars to play their first round game, then if they win get to host a District Final at their place? If their gym is big enough to host a District Final, wouldn't you think it would be big enough to host any of the District games? Same thinking goes for Forest City. I guess if your home gym isn't large enough to host any of the District games then you either find another neutral gym to host, or you don't host at all. I am in favor of the top seed in each District hosting throughout, but not if your facilities are inadequate to do so.

Double headers

In the double-headers, the current arrangement at least gives the non-host team that wins two consolations: 1) they may get to scout their next opponent (second round) without having to travel through ice and snow on another or previous night and 2) they'll be more used to the court after already having played a game there.
