#10 Ankeny Centennial vs #7 Johnston
Both teams are coming off of confident and blow out wins. Centennial adjusted nicely with a new quarterback and Johnston just pounded the ball on the ground. I think this one will be low scoring and come down to the last few possessions. I think Centennial’s defense may be a little better which gives them the slight edge but wouldn’t surprise me if Johnston pulled it out either.
#5 Ankeny vs #16 Lewis Central
Ankeny has been on a mission after a week 2 loss. Their defense is very stingy as it has not given up more than 16 points in any game since their lone loss. Lewis Central got a nice win and are continuing to look to keep proving the west has some strong teams. This will be close at half but I think Ankeny wears on the Titans in the second half.
#3 Cedar Rapids, Kennedy vs North Scott, Eldridge
North Scott has played better but Kennedy has been good all year and I don’t see them having too much difficulty with this game. They look to keep pushing for the dome in similar fashion but a tad closer than the first meeting.
#4 Cedar Rapids, Washington vs #13 Cedar Rapids, Jefferson
Washington after taking a loss week 2 has been on a roll. CR Jefferson has had a nice season but in a rematch I think Washington’s athletes come to play and get another win for Washington.
#2 Dowling Catholic, WDM vs Southeast Polk
Southeast Polk has been on a nice run at the end of season but Dowling is a different beast. Southeast Polk I think keeps it close early but Dowling’s run game and defense give them the advantage in this one.
#15 Iowa City, City High @ #8 Pleasant Valley
I think this will be one of the better games in 4A. IC High has got it going as of late. Pleasant Valley had a two week stretch where it struggled to score but since then have found their offensive game. I think home field advantage is key here.
Iowa City, West @ #1 Bettendorf
IC West made it to the playoffs and got a nice 1st round win however Bettendorf is #1 for a reason and I think their depth and physical play is too much of an advantage in this one.
#9 Valley, West Des Moines @ #6 Waukee
Most likely the biggest game in 4A on Monday. A rematch from week 1. Waukee is much improved since then and Ferken and company have the offense really grooving. Valley is a traditional power and run team with a tailback in Mason who is proving to be one of the best in state and just as a sophomore. I think this one will be much closer than the first time around but Valley’s ability to also throw the ball gives them the advantage in this game.
