#15 Ar-We-Va, Westside @ #1 Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn
Ar-We-Va is coming a very big win against CR-B as the offense behind Danner produced a lot of points. MMC is coming off of a an easy win and look to continue to roll. A contrast in styles as Ar-We-Va likes to produce through the air and MMC has a very strong ground game led by Specht. Ar-We-Va’s speed and quickness could keep this game close but MMC’s style and size I think wears down the Rockets.
Colo-Nesco @ #12 Moravia
Both teams are coming off strong performances and both are looking to keep proving to people they are the real deal. Cochran and Moravia continue to put up points. Garret Tiarks and the Royals have a very solid ground game and look to continue to pound the ball. Whoever is successful sticking to their game plan obviously comes out with the win however I will give the slight edge to Colo-Nesco as they have played a few tougher teams.
#14 East Mills @ #8 Lenox
Both teams are coming off sound wins and get ready for a rematch from the regular season. Hopkins and East Mills dominated Exira/EHK on the ground and also by getting 6 turnovers. They have been on a roll ever since their week 6 loss to Lenox. Lenox has been playing very good ball all year and Cline and company have a very solid all-round offense that has been tricky to slow down. Both teams are familiar with each other and this one will be a good one. I think Lenox’s combination of ground and air may give them the edge in the rematch.
#10 Fremont-Mills, Tabor @ #4 Glidden-Ralston
This is a match-up of similar teams as both boast very sound defenses and physical play. Fremont Mills is led Phillips who is a workhorse and their offense is starting to come around with the emergence and confidence of Vanatta. Glidden-Ralston is led by Brown and Christian as the Wildcats have produced on the ground and in the air. This should be a slugfest and a very physical game. I would say a small advantage may go to the Wildcats with a better passing game and the home field advantage.
#7 Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire @ #2 Newell-Fonda
The premier game in 8 man on Monday night. Two teams who are very physical and love to run the ball. Everything starts and ends with Girres for GTRA but not many can stop him. Newell-Fonda may have had some close calls in the regular season but came out the 1st round and pounded a solid H-LP team. Wise and company are on a mission to repeat. Whoever can throw the ball better and get a few turnovers will come out victorious. Newell-Fonda has the slight advantage with the home field.
#9 H-L-V, Victor @ #6 Central, Elkader
Another great game in 8 man as two teams are looking to continue great seasons. Central Elkader is looking for revenge after last year and have been rolling teams. HLV has one of the best run games in the state with a three headed monster led by Kriegel. Hoth has stepped right into the tailback spot for Central Elkader and had a great season. Ehrhardt provides just enough in the passing game to keep defenses honest and I think that will give the advantage to Central Elkader.
#16 Turkey Valley, Jackson Junction @ #3 Don Bosco, Gilbertville
Turkey Valley is coming off of a nice win in the 1st round. Blazek and Hachman are nice 1-2 combo that have given teams fits all year. Don Bosco just keeps the beat going, as they have new faces but the same ole outcome, dominance. Mangrich and Bagby lead a deep and complete football team. The total depth on offense I think gives Don Bosco an edge here.
West Bend-Mallard @ #5 Janesville
West Bend-Mallard is coming off of an emotional and hard fought game and got revenge against Northwood-Kensett. Janesville is coming into round 2 with a dominant performance. Travis Fehr is as good of a back you will find in 8 man and he has been a dominate force the last few games. Nelson and Dodd lead a Janesville team that has been on a mission all year and have dominated everyone up to this point. Janesville getting to host and having an easier first round game gives them an advantage here.
