I have no clue who is going to win this district. Kuemper seems to be the favorite but they lost a ton from last year. Maybe teams like Clarinda, East Sac or Southeast Valley will push for the district title?

What do you think about this week's games?

Clarinda vs. Atlantic
East Sac @ IKM-Manning
Kuemper vs. Carroll high
Red Oak @ Glenwood
Shenandoah @ Riverside, Oakland
SV @ Manson-Northwest Webster
WCV vs. Des Moines Christian

With Kuemper losing as much as they did I would not anoint or count out anyone in this district... i see a mad scramble for playoff spots in this district but if anyone is a favorite for right now it has to be Clarinda

Anybody have results? Only scores I've seen are Clarinda blowing out Atlantic and Kuemper getting blown out. No points by Kuemper? This district is wide open.

Clarinda looks, based on score alone, like the frontrunner. Kuemper score shocked me as well. Manson's o-line and rb dominated S.V. defense last nite but I liked what I saw with new QB. Dual threat with great arm in miserable conditions.

Thoughts on first night of district play for some teams?

Red Oak (1-1) @ Shenandoah (1-1)
Southeast Valley (1-1) @ East Sac (1-1)
WCV (0-2) @ Carroll Kuemper (1-1)

Clarinda (2-0) also plays their third non-district game at AHST (1-1).

Kuemper should roll, Clarinda also, don't know anything about red oak or Shenandoah, SEV and East Sac should be a battle! Loser of that game might be on the outside looking in come playoff time.

Interested to see what happens between both SEV vs East Sac and Red Oak vs. Shenandoah losers will have a longer climb to playoff spots. Does adding SEWG give SEV enough to change the hammering they took last year? I guess we'll see

SEWG Has only 2 players that play any valueable minutes. Most are Prarie Valley. I don't think that will matter anyway because coaching staff is all PV.

That PV team that played East Sac last year week 1 was vastly different than the team that finished the season with a share of a district title. Southeast Valley is a quality team and should have a chance to make the playoffs. I think that the winner of the SV-ESC game will put themselves in the driver's seat for competing with Kuemper and Clarinda for one of those top 2 spots in the district. Same for the Red Oak- Shenandoah game.

East Sac wins 23-8. Could have been a bigger margin as ESC had several drives stall inside the 20. ESC defense held SEV to 44 yards rushing.

AHSTW 12 Clarinda 8

Tough battle. AHST went to the dome last year, so those saying Clarinda should roll didn't do much research. Turnovers were the dagger into the Cardinals. Also had a player ejected for slapping the side of player's helmet. (Officiating crew also threw a flag for roughing the kicker on a blocked extra point. They did pick it up, to their credit, after they were reminded of the rules.) Clarinda had around 350 yards rushing, but fumbled three or four times.

AHSTW is a good, well-coached team. Will they make it to the dome again? Probably not, but it looks like they will be making a run. While I'm ranting, #9 is going to learn the hard way one of these games. He was initiating scuffles the whole game (solid game plan?) and taunted the Clarinda crowd after the handshake line for a solid 20 seconds. I'm pretty sure Johnny Manziel is more respectable and respectful. Act like you've won before.

That being said, good effort from both teams.

Two critical games to watch in district this week East Sac vs. Clarinda: winner gets a leg up on district race and SEV vs. Shenandoah will have the loser questioning their possibility of making a playoff appearance. Also interesting to see what kind of response WCV will have to the beating they took last week at Kuemper when they travel to Red Oak Friday.

What dutchmen said.

District Games:
East Sac @ Clarinda -- Game of the week. Long drive for ESC, I'll take Clarinda in a close one.
Shenandoah @ Southeast Valley -- Battle to stay in playoff race, I'll go with SV.
WCV @ Red Oak -- If WCV comes to play it could be a game, but I'll take Red Oak by a couple scores.

Non-district Game:
Carroll Kuemper @ South Central Calhoun -- Should be a good game but I'll go with Kuemper.

Hopefully coach Sweiter has the players rallied and focused! Homecoming should be enough but who knows.Dont know anything about Shenandoah?

District Games:
Clarinda 24, East Sac 3
Southeast Valley 49, Shenandoah 26
WCV 26, Red Oak 6

Non-district Game:
SCC 20, Carroll Kuemper 7

Week 5 District Games:
Clarinda @ Shenandoah -- Clarinda looking pretty good, they win handily
Red Oak @ Carroll Kuemper -- We will see if Red Oak rebounds from last week, Kuemper wins regardless
Southeast Valley @ WCV -- Might be close for a little bit but I'll take SV by 14+

Non-district game:
PAC @ East Sac -- Could be a good game, I'll go with East Sac

Not that anyone seems to care, but it looks like we know who the playoff teams are going to be in this district barring some major upsets. Clarinda, Kuemper, East Sac, and Southeast Valley look to have the spots almost locked up but you never know in high school football. Now it will probably come down to who gets what seed in the remaining weeks of the season.

Big game this week as Carroll Kuemper (3-2) visits Southeast Valley (3-2). This will have a major impact in playoff seedings.

I think Clarinda will win, but IMO the 2-4 seeds are completely up for grabs. It will become a lot clearer in the coming weeks.

Looking forward to the Kuemper game. Like you said it will determine playoff seeding pretty clearly. I think Red Oak, Stuart, and Shenandoah are out already. Shenandoah has good QB but that is about it WCV Stuart is not very good and based on scores alone either is red oak. Hope for a good game Fri nite. Weather sounds dry but cool and psbly windy. GO JAGS!!!!!

Predictions this week?

Game of the week: Carroll Kuemper 3-2 (2-0) @ Southeast Valley 3-2 (2-1)
Shenandoah 1-4 (0-3) @ East Sac 3-2 (1-1)
WCV 1-4 (1-2) @ Clarinda 4-1 (2-0)

Red Oak 2-3 (1-2) also plays a non-district game at Treynor (0-5).

I can't believe Treynor is 0-5, that's crazy

Alright so I see that Southeast Valley got the big W over Kuemper last week which definitely makes the playoff seedings even more up for grabs now between ESC, SV, and CK. Kuemper has a rough stretch as they just lost to SV and now have to play Clarinda and ESC before finishing with Shenandoah. This weeks games:

Clarinda @ Kuemper-- game of the week, I'll take Clarinda by a couple scores
Southeast Valley @ Red Oak-- Last chance for Red Oak but SV looks tough right now, they win by a few scores
East Sac @ WCV-- East Sac big.
Atlantic @ Shenandoah-- Don't know much about them but I'll take Atlantic by a couple scores.

I agree with you on all of those. It seems that the 2 seed is East Sac's to take, but they still have to play every Friday night!

Week 8 features a few big games in this district:

Kuemper travels to East Sac in a game that has major playoff seeding implications. Should be a good game.

Southeast Valley hosts the #3 team in 1A, Fort Dodge St. Edmond. Close proximity between the schools and football programs with a lot of recent success make this an interesting matchup. Also a good test for SV before they take on Clarinda next week.

Should be an interesting game tomorrow night in Gowrie. I know it's a non-district game but I'm expecting SV to pull out all the stops for this one. Ever since they've consolidated, they've seemed really into their matchups with St. Eds in the various sports they've competed in thus far. Something worth noting going into tonight's game.

SV is not as big as some of the teams SE has faced this year, but they do seem to have some speed with their playmakers.

I'll give you a tip Thunder. If you are coming to the game.....come very early. No one travels better than SE and there is not a ton of space on the visitor side. Since the consolidation the home side had been filled by SEV so that won't be an option and seating (and parking) tonight could be tough for those not early. I think the SE people will be surprised at the crowd.

Good luck to both teams. I'm picking SE this year but next year could very easily be a different story.

UPDATE:

Just got a text from my contact down in Gowrie. In anticipation of the large crowd there has been a limited number of visitor skyboxes erected on the roof of the Roller Rink. With binoculars it should at least provide a good view of the south end zone.

Unfortunately I think SE will win tonight, but I think it could be a pretty good game and I'm hoping its close. Not that it matters now but I think next year SV will win. They bring back a ton next year and I believe their JV team just beat SE pretty handily.

FYI- it is SV, not SEV. Southeast is one word. Some people have gotten it right but just to clarify for others.

Southeast is one word, but the abbreviation is SE, so I can see how those not familiar with the district would think SEV.

Nah I won't be there this time. Gotta be at my sister's wedding rehearsal.

At least I'll be able to watch most of the Iowa game tomorrow....

At least the dreaded (by some SE fans) corn field wont come into play. It didn't exist this year. It'll be back next year, but the SE/SEV game will be in Dodge then.

Makeweight, you write- "Southeast Valley hosts the #3 team in 1A, Fort Dodge St. Edmond. Close proximity between the schools and football programs with a lot of recent success make this an interesting matchup. Also a good test for SV before they take on Clarinda next week." I know that St. Edmond has had allot of recent success, but where has SEV/PV/SEWG had much success?

I looked back at the past 11 years, including this year, at BCMoore ratings. In those 11 years St. Edmond has a combined record of 90 - 29. They have finished in the top 10 in 7 of those years and always in the top 20 in the remaining years.

In those same years, PV/SEV has only finished in the top 10 once (2009). They were 14th in 2012 (A) and 18th in 2008. The others years have not been too impressive. Their combined overall record in those 11 years is 64 - 45. If you throw out years 2008 & 2009 when they had cupcake schedules, their combined record would be only 41 - 42.

I don't even know why I'm responding to a troll like you but I suppose I will. The fact of the matter is that PV had a great football program over the past 6-7, SW-G did not. PV had 6 winning seasons in a row before the merger, including 2 trips to the dome. And I do not want to hear about the schedule, in 2009 they were a legit top 3 team in the state and only lost to CBSA in the dome (who had Jake Waters as a QB, starter at K-State now). Recent does not mean 11 years ago...do you know how many coaches are still at the same place they were 11 years ago?? Not many. Now in their first year of being together as a new team they have a winning season and are going to the playoffs as a 2 or 3 seed. 7 straight winning seasons now including 2 trips to the dome...that's called success.

Obviously you have something against the new district. Maybe its jealousy, I do not know. But obviously I think its pretty pathetic how you need to constantly attack them in order to make yourself feel better.

Recent PV football records (2014) 5-3, (2013) 6-4, (2012) 6-4, (2011) 5-5 (2010) 5-4. Those records do not make up a "great football program" particularly when PV is playing SEWG in those years.

7 straight winning regular seasons. In 2009 they went 12-1 and in 2008 they went 11-2 and went to the semis each year. That is success and it has continued on this year.. Your opinions and attacks are meaningless. Get off this thread and let people discuss the actual district...im done with you.

For some reason I was thinking GoingDeep was a MNW fan....but anyways,

I think PV has done pretty well over the past decade when you consider the size of their community compared to some of the other teams they've faced over the years. They've usually always been competitive, if not successful, and that to me is a sign of a good program. You don't have to win 9 games every year to be a good program. Yes, the elite programs do that every year because they just either seem to have built-in talent or coaching staffs that manage to just bring out the best in their players better than others. Most of the time, it's a combination of both. It's the way it is.

SEW had several good years in the early part of the 2000s and even took it to St. Eds a few times before their turnaround. However, the declining population and enrollment numbers in their area proved to be too much to overcome in the last several years.

As I mentioned before, so far I think the consolidation between the two programs has done nothing but help them as far as athletics goes.
