Very quiet on this board so far this year. Wondering if there are any D7 watchers out there??

This week's games:

Pella Christian at Albia: Albia certainly seems like the bell cow of this district. I'll take Albia by 21

Centerville at PCM: I'll take PCM and their air circus by 28

CMB at Davis County: I'll take CMB by 35

North Polk at Clarke: Tough start for the young Comets this year but I'll take NP by 21

Anybody else out there???

I can't say I disagree. Albia looks to be really good, Clarke and C-ville not very good, Davis county probably a bit better than those two. CMB (my son's school), PCM and NP I'm not sure about other than they are likely 2/3/4 in the district. I'd like to say CMB is second best, with PCM 3rd and NP 4th, but I'm not there yet.

I do think those three will join Albia in the playoffs, but I could see any of them finishing in any of those spots behind Albia. Heck, I could see them going 1-1 against each other with the games all coming down to the last possession or being blow outs.

I'll take a stab at week 4:

Albia at NP: Albia by 21 as they look to run the table this year in the district

Nevada at CMB: Toss up game to me. I'll take CMB in a high scoring shootout by 7

Davis Co at PCM: PCM by 21

Clarke at Centerville: Someone has to win.....I'll take Centerville by 7

Week 4:
Albia at NP: Albia by 28 as they are by far the best team in the district

Nevada at CMB: CMB in a close one. I will take CMB because playing at home

Davis Co. at PCM: PCM by 21 as they continue to get big play in the passing game.

Clarke at Centerville: Clarke has lost 12 in a row, Centerville has lost 7 in a row. I will take Centerville 2 to 0 with a late saftey

With PCM having there two main weapons back at full strength, hard charging Ron Marshall in the backfield and a talented Ricky Reeve running routes, the offense looks solid. The defense is getting better with every snap so it's looking like friday night could be a real chance to show a well rounded effort on both sides of the ball.

Kind of a quiet thread here but I'll take a shot at week 5:

Centerville at Albia: Rake your lawn Friday night in Centerville. Continuous clock for Albia as they are the real deal

Roland Story at North Polk: NP by 14

PCM at CMB: CMB wins the battle of the initials by 7 in a high scoring game

Davis County at Clarke: Davis County by 10

This is the only one I'm not sure of. This game is a complete toss up. I could see it coming down to the last play, I could see either team winning a blow out. Although, the later we get into the season, the more I'm convinced whoever wins this game will finish 2nd to Albia.

SSG T i was curious about how much time the Nevada D was giving the QB in the pocket, were they quick hits and big runs or long shots? both? Was the Nevada D getting any pressure at all? Just curious. I agree totally it could go either way but if pcm shows up to play it will be a great game, good Iowa fri. night football.

Nevada was getting quite a bit of pressure in the 1st half, but none in the second half. Keep in mind, Pat Girard, CMB's best lineman, missed the Nevada game with an injured ankle. He'll be back for the PCM game. Their starting RB also got dinged up a bit, but is healthy again.

Really, outside of one first half drive and the last time they got the ball, nevada did little on offense, and the last drive CMB was playing prevent and just trying to keep the clock moving. Their D is doing MUCH better shutting down running lanes, especially up the middle and they're getting good pressure on QBs. Dobson gouged them for like 230 yards last year, I think he ended up with less than half that this year and little of it was inside. This is actually the best I've seen them play defense since probably the year they made state semis in 07 or 08.

Oh, one quirk from the Nevada game, after their last TD, Nevada ended up kicking off from their own 20. They took 4 off sides penalties trying to on side kick. Weirdest thing I've seen, they looked like they had never practiced it. At one point they had two guys running up like they were going to kick, then they both stopped like they were confused. The rest of the team kept running and the kicker kicked it with about 8 guys already 5-10 yards downfield.

I still think the game is a toss up, but I'm a bit more comfortable knowing Girard will be back. I think a big part of their passing issues the 1st half was him not being there.

Week 6 Picks:

North Polk at Centerville: Should be competitive? but I will take NP by 14-21 points

Albia at Davis County: Davis County picked the wrong team for its homecoming. Ouch. Albia in a continuous clock

PCM at West Marshall: West Marshall is out of Ferches....PCM by 28

CMB at Clarke: CMB in a continuous clock.

Albia is mile ahead of everyone in this district. It will be interesting to see where CMB, NP and PCM shake out in the end.

I have seen both teams play, against Albia, and North Polk is far superior to Centerville at this point. I would say NP by 4 TD's at least

It was actually the Quarters on 08, honest mistake because it was played in the dome.

Week 7:

Centerville at Ft. Madison: Someone has to win. I'll take Ft. Madison 21-14.

Clarke at PCM: PCM big, 42-7

CMB at Albia: CMB has great receivers, and if Albia has a weakness it might be their pass defense as North Polk got them a few times on big pass plays. Nevertheless, Albia is the real deal and CMB hasn't been hit yet like they are going to Friday night and they are going to get an education. Albia 42-14.

Davis County at North Polk: I know nothing about Davis County but heard they are similar in talent to Centerville. If so I'll take the Comets 42-7. NP has CMB and PCM to close out the season. Those should be good competitive games!

I agree on everything, though I think the Albia/CMB game will be a bit closer. Albia by 17-21. And honestly, I think it will be a bit higher scoring, something like 49-28 wouldn't surprise me.

Even though Ft Madison is bad with 0 wins, they will likely beat Center by 17-21. Ft Madison can score.

One thing I would note about Albia, they have 15 INT's on defense this season in 6 games. Also, one of North Polk's passing TD's came on a fake punt, so take that for what it is. They did give up a passing TD to Centerville late in the 4th with their 3rd string defense in, so I wouldn't count that one too much either. I think Albia wins this one going away. They are at home, Senior night, and they are really rolling right now. This team is probably better than last years team, but they are not as flashy as last season. Offensive line is opening massive holes and they just got back a starting corner from a 5 game suspension.

How about week 8?

North Polk @ CMB - CMB by around 14. They played well against Albia but still have some things to clean up on offense and they can almost taste the #1 seed. Plus, they close with Centerville so there is no overlooking NP.

Albia @ PCM - PCM is a good team, but I think Albia takes out their frustrations from Friday on them. Albia by at least 3 TDs.

Davis County @ Centerville - Davis County by 14

Clarke @ Central Decatur, Leon - CDL by 30+

First, I wanted to congratulate CMB on their big win. My question for any CMB or Albia posters who were at the game is: I'm not that surprised CMB scored 21 points - as they certainly have athletes to score points. My question is: How did Albia only score 2 offensive TDs! I really didn't see that coming. CMB now is in the drivers seat as I imagine most folks in Albia will be NP fans this weekend as they are likely the last obstacle between CMB and a district title (assuming CMB rolls over Centerville).

I don't have any changes to the above predictions, as from my observations I pretty much agree with the above picks. If NP somehow pulls off the upset of CMB this weekend the D7 standings are going to be a big mess!

Coach Luther may not agree but I'm glad they come right back with NP instead of having a week to soak up all the atta boys with a soft opponent. Is the game in Maxwell this week?

Yep, in Maxwell. It's funny, the facilities there are kind of crappy, but the team likes the field far better than the field in Baxter, where the facilities are better. And I agree about playing NP right away. They should be able to get away with a down week next Friday and still beat Centerville, and get some guys some rest for the 1st round.

As for the person asking about the Albia game, they did a great job of bottling up the middle and limiting big plays. They still gave up some yards, bit it was in small chunks and they forced Albia into quite a few 3rd and longs which they aren't really set up to convert. Their defense has been playing better this year, but that was probably the best defensive game plan I've seen from them in years. They knew what they needed to do and for the most part did it.

Got to give a big shout out to Ron Marshall PCM. In a single back set rushed for 136 yds. on 27 carries against a very fast and physical Albia defense. Way to go kid!

Congrats to CMB on most likely (with an expected win over Centerville) winning the District 7 title outright. The standings got cleared up Friday, as CMB is champion, Albia gets the #2 seed, and NP and PCM have a one game playoff with identical records for the 3 or 4. Week 9 picks:

PCM at NP: Game of the week in District 7. These teams are very even statically. If NP is at least even on TO's I think they win but in a very close game, This game is a toss-up to me. If the IAHSAA is serious about avoiding district rematches in the 1st round while staying within the 125 mile rule:

If PCM wins: my prediction is they go to South Tama County in round 1. If they lose, They go to Union or Williamsburg
If NP wins: They get East Sac County and travel to Lake View. If they lose, they go to Union or maybe Clarinda

Albia at Clarke: Ouch. Tough year in Osceola. Albia big as they rest many starters early. I predict they play Mid Prairie in Round 1.

Centerville at CMB: CMB big as they win D7 title. I predict they play either South Hardin or Carroll Kuemper in round 1

Keokuk at Davis County: Should be a good game. I'll go with DC 21-20.

Proud daddy!

I will attempt to give some predictions for the D7 teams in the first round:

South Hardin at CMB: I will say CMB by 14-21. CMB is a good team but I'm still not sure they get past the second round. We shall see I guess.

Mid Prairie at Albia: Albia by 21. Albia is a very good, albeit somewhat one dimensional team. In my opinion they are still the most talent team in the district (even thought they lost to CMB) and have the talent to get to the dome if they are playing well.

North Polk at South Tama County: Bad draw for North Polk. They played well last Friday but STC has a power game like Albia and massive size. I'll take STC by 17.

PCM at Williamsburg: Ouch. Williamsburg by 35. Bad draw also for PCM but its hard to be choosy when you are a #3 or #4 seed. Best of luck to all of the D7 teams!
