Who does everyone have in the 2A Substate games. (BCmoore rankings and favorites in parenthesis)
After the major upsets this past week, this field may be the most open it has been in a long, long time. (No BH, WC makes it feel like any team below could make a run)
What do you all think??
Substate 1: Central Lyon (3) vs Cherokee (19) (CL by 18)
-- Central Lyon has one of the best players in Zach Lutmer. Cherokee is coming off a historical win against WC. Will they be able to build off of that or is it going to be too hard to keep that emotional high. Can Cherokee top their game vs WC or will Lutmer bring CL to state (for the 1st time?) not sure if they have ever been there.
Substate 2: ELC (12) vs Rock Valley (6) (RV by 6)
- Similar to substate1: Owen Larson is one of the best players in this class. He can really fill it up from anywhere and RV is coming off an emotional high beating Boyden-Hull. Will RV be able to continue their success or will Larson stay hot and knock them out.
Substate 3: Roland Story (10) vs Garner (32) (RS by 13)
- Roland Story coming off a HUGE win vs SCC after squeaking one out vs SE Valley. Garner is playing well and snuck by Clarion. Could be a good one!
Substate 4: Aplington Parkersburg (4) vs Jesup (17) (AP by 15)
- 3rd time for these teams. AP won by 26 and 39 earlier this year. (Sounds like similar scores from WC and Cherokee...) AP has won their 1st 2 games by a combined 7 points. Interesting to see if Jesup can emulate what Dike and Grundy Center did to slow the game down.
Substate 5: Monticello (15) vs Williamsburg (11) (Williamsburg by 5)
- Could be one of the better games in the 2A substates- Waukon gave Monticello all they could handle but they responded well in the district final. Williamsburg seems to be rolling right now
Substate 6: Northeast Goose Lake (28) vs Mid Prairie Wellman (8) (Mid Prairie by 14)
- NE is the surprise team here. After loosing to Camanche twice they now get a shot at an undefeated Mid Prairie team. It was a 5 point game last time- I think this has potential to upset written on it. Guess we will wait and see.
Substate 7: Pella Christain (5) vs DM Christian (9) (PC by 5)
- This may be the most anticipated game in the whole class. Rematch of 2 really good private schools (Only 2 left I believe) DMC got them by 11 back in January. Will it be PC size or DMC athleticism that gets it done. Either way, could be a classic
Substate 8: Van Meter(7) vs Red Oak (34) (VM by 16)
- Read Oak just upset Treynor but will they be able to hang with a very good Van Meter team.
