Xavier has only lost 1 district game since coming down to 3A, Western Dubuque in their first year. So it isn't like them going undefeated in district play is something new. However if you look at the district Wahlert is improving, as is Marion, and Western Dubuque is growing and seems to produce athletes so I would guess that if they do get taken down it would be one of those 3 teams. But they return about as much as they ever have (most years they play all seniors as you wait your turn at Xavier) and I have heard that they think highly of their sophomore class which already had two starters on varsity from it, so my guess is no.

And just like the last cycle the state contorted the districts so Solon gets grouped with the southeastern teams in D-6, while CCA (and now Liberty), who are both west of Solon, are put in D-5 with the Quad City schools. Is it just an I-80 thing? Since Tiffin is on the Interstate, they figure it's simpler to have them run to Assumption and North Scott instead of Solon? It just strikes me as logically weird to see them twist the district boundaries there.

As for D-4, Marion is on the rise, and Wahlert has been improving, but Xavier doesn't look to be challenged much. I don't see CPU or Maquoketa adding much to that district's RPI, if you know what I mean.

Western Dubuque won't be a pushover for Xavier. They have a good coaching staff, and although their stay in 4A was relatively short, I think it gave them some confidence that they can compete with anybody. I believe they beat Cedar Falls in the Dome two years ago.

Does anyone know what Newton, North Scott, and Lewis Central have coming back and what their expectations will be? I believe LC has their leading passer, rusher, and receiver back.

North Scott loses quite a bit, but they have been very consistent in 4A for a long time so I would guess that they will be good.

Newton’s senior class looks like they were very good as well in both football and basketball, don’t know what they have coming.

Xavier's not going to lose a game in that district until they change the district in the future sometime. Marion will never beat them, and at Wahlert more kids try out for the various basketball teams than football by a large margin at the lower levels.. There is just not the "football culture" to beat a program like Xavier.

Newton probably a little over-rated here. With the exception of Valley, last year's schedule was very weak (think someone posted that their OPP winning percentage was .33 and that's with Valley included. Also don't think they have many impact players returning. I will be surprised if Pella struggles with anyone in D7 LC probably the biggest threat to breaking into the top tiers of 3A, but that will be a tough D9. Maybe North Scott, don't have much perspective on the Far East side, although having Assumption in your district is always tough. I think D1 and D2 are anybody's to win. I think that WSR has the best shot in D3. Xavier and Solon both have cakewalks

lewis central will have the best quarterback in the state next year.....d1 - texas chritian recurit....highly sought...not sure how many coming back, believe they have some skill people coming back

North Scott and Lewis Central both made it to the 2nd rd of 4A playoffs last year I believe. Boone is so incompetent in how they make up the levels. Need to add a 5A in there.
4A can be funny however, I think it would be tough for the top (4) 3A teams to compete with top (4) 4A teams, but just making the playoffs in 4A does not equate to running the gauntlet in 3A. I think LC will be tough, but they lose some key pieces, having a 4star QB does help....alot!, North Scott is more of a question mark, they lost to Assumption last year who was not a top 4, but easily a top 10 3A team last year. Xavier still seems to be the team to beat with what they have returning.
