Madrid and Ogden really got the short end of the stick when it comes travel with possibly going to South Central Calhoun and Pocahontas Area

Long distance. Not a short trip to either Lake City or Pocahontas.

Actually, District #2 is relatively close when compared to the other districts in 1A.

If you just look at the longest road trip in each district, here is the miles traveled for that longest trip:
District #7: 76 (Woodward Academy to Pella Christian)
District #4: 81 (West Branch to Bellevue)
District #2: 105 (Madrid to Pocahontas)
District #1: 106 (West Lyon to Emmetsburg)
District #8: 107 (Van Meter to Clarinda)
District #3: 110 (Lake Mills to Denver)
District #5: 111 (Wilton to Van Buren)
District #9: 124 (Treynor to Cherokee)
District #6: 131 (Regina to South Hardin)

So 5 districts were within 6 miles of each other for their longest trip and then 2 districts with relatively short travel and 2 districts with a lot of travel. Fairly well divided based on travel...imho.

I think Emmetsburg has a reason to complain. They are going to be traveling long road trips west for the next two years. Cherokee should have been put in D1.

District 1 is stacked with Emmetsburg, West Lyon, West Sioux, and Western Christian! I love our awful state association!

Northwest Iowa districts are almost always loaded. Lots of good football up there and not enough other teams close enough to separate the top teams.

Cherokee in D1, then where does E'burg go? D9? Nope.

Would hate to travel 8 miles for a game when 131 sounds way more fun. Nice work Boone nozzles

My son's team didn't get matched up with the closest team either by them last cycle so I guess I shouldn't expect much.

Did he get sent to a district with a 50 mile longer drive than the other team? Their longest drive 81, this team 131, 61% further. Not the first team. The Boone nozzles at work again, combine the boys and girls associations. A closed door, non transparent set up that doesn't listen to its membership. Using intimidation to keep the members quiet.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of the RPI system. So many variables. Opponent strength isn't the same across the state. A 5-4 team in NW Iowa may be better than a 9-0 team in SW Iowa.

Not controlling your non-district schedule is also a factor. Teams that are in difficult districts and receive weak non-district schedules will have one chance to get in. Win your district.

In theory, a 3-6 team could get into the playoffs before an 8-1 team due to better RPI composite.

Hate them trying to come up with a relevant RPI. Do not see how that is possible.

My son is a first year coach at AC/GC this fall. They have two games that will require over 1 1/2 hour drives in their district.

That is just part of it. You play what is on the schedule.
