Normally I would make a comment on Xavier and Solon being a tough start to the season but it would just clutter the board and get in the way of all the other quality discussions going on.

West Branch is one. West Burlington-Notre Dame, who is a 3A team (WB is 1A), scheduled for week 2. WB didn't put them on their list, WBND didn't either.

Maybe the state got tired of West Branch scheduling down a class. West Burlington had a losing record last season, West Branch should be able to handle them I would expect.

Your typical 1A team schedules down a class. Your typical A team schedules up a class, since they can't schedule down. And I am pretty sure West Branch normally schedules up a class, and the state could care less either way

They've been playing Class A Lisbon and perennial 2A doormat West Liberty for the last 4 seasons or so.
I guess the state did care, since they changed it up apparently.

Class A Lisbon is more than a good non-district opponent for a 1A school. Maybe Lisbon didn't have West Branch on their list.
So I am going to say with confidence, the state does not care if a 1A school plays an A school in non-district. Extremely high confidence

At least they're only "scheduling down" for 2 games of the season. Better than 7....

Correct. Lisbon didn't care to list WB so the Bears, apparently, didn't list Lisbon.

As for West Liberty, that is game that has been played since before we all were born and probably before the majority of our parents and maybe grandparents were born. Regardless of records, it is a wonderful rivalry with some outstanding history and memories.

WBND was definitely not on the Bears' list and vice versa. What a waste of a bus trip for both. IMHO. I wish we had their speed/athletes. Our coaches might actually be able to do something with them other than have them throw in the towel after losing in week 3 to a 1A team.

I know for 20 years that was the case with Madrid and W-G, Madrid would have W-G top of the list and W-G wouldn't even have Madrid on. It wasn't until the last district change when the state forced the two to play.

That is something to ask them. Popular belief was that Madrid would kill them but no one knows for certain

Looks like there will be no answer from WG on the subject. Good to see all the interest and activity on the board.
