Curious as to why you are so high on Central Lyon? They lose a lot. Yes Van Whye is still there, but lots of question marks.

Belle Plaine at 6 is interesting. I know they have a really good guard in DeMeluaenare (sp?). Don't know who else they have. Inside? Probably win a weak SICL east. Keota usually solid. Anyone know who else they have? Just don't know that much about them. I know they had a great year a couple years ago and pretty solid last year.

All I know about Belle Plain is by looking at quikstats that they return 4 of their top 5 scorers, so that always helps. Lone Tree looks like they should be really good this year also, returning all of last years starters, along with Jovonte Squires, who will probably be first team all-state this year.

Grand View Christian should probably be on there somewhere. They return most of last year's team that won 25 games and made the state tourney.

Saw GVC play first round at state last year. Strangest game I've ever watched. Only shot 3's and I don't think attempted a free throw. Do they always play that style or was it just a bad game for them?

I think that was pretty standard last year. They didn't really have any bigs when we played them. They moved the ball constantly and quickly until they got an open 3 or were able to drive.

This year they have Arturo Montes down low. He's a SO, but he's well built and pretty skilled. The other have another big, he's about 6'7-8, but he got hurt in fall league before I saw much of him. He looked really athletic with decent, but not great skills. But that was a bit less than one game worth.

Other than that, I'd guess it will be a lot of 3s again. The Glenn brothers can both drive and finish, but Sam, the younger one, hangs out behind the line a lot.

Gladbrook Reinbeck likely will not specs conference game, the nicl west is awful. They will need to go outside conference to get a test.

I feel there are some questionable picks in the rankings. Boyden-Hull, Ft. Dodge St. Eds, Grand View, Lynnville-Sully and West Fork not being included is a surprise. I can't imagine them being held out for long though. I would add those 5 and take off Montezuma, Belle Plaine, Ar-We-Va, Fremont Mills, and Boyer Valley. Let's compare the rankings to BCMoore.

1.) Gladbrook-Reinbeck (Previous: #1) BC#5
2.) St. Albert (Previous: #4) BC#13
3.) Central Lyon (Previous: #5) BC#24
4.) Montezuma (Previous: #3) BC#25
5.) Lone Tree (Previous: #8) BC#15
6.) Belle Plaine (Previous: #9) BC#18
7.) North Linn (Previous: #T10) BC#2
8.) Ar-We-Va (Previous: #7) BC#35
9.) Fremont-Mills (Previous: #T10) BC#55
10.) Boyer Valley (Previous: #T10) BC#54

Ar-We-Va vs Boyer Valley and Montezuma vs Lynnville-Sully face off this week, and I predict Ar-We-Va and Lynnville will win those contests.

I believe he is playing or that is what I heard. Grundy Center fans said he went off on them.
AGWSR will be tough They also play Janesville and Jesup

Saw GVC play first round at state last year. Strangest game I've ever watched. Only shot 3's and I don't think attempted a free throw. Do they always play that style or was it just a bad game for them?

There were some extenuating circumstances to that first round at state game, but they did rely heavily on the 3 last year.

Nothing I say takes away from South O'Brien being the better team; their solid D took GVC out of what they liked doing best. It looked like GVC had their worst game of the year at a bad time.

Last year, GVC was a drive & dish type of offense that relied heavily on guards breaking down the D. The starting guard DeMeulenare (spelling?) broke a finger on his hand on a hard foul in the last minute of play against Montezuma at substate. He was in a cast until the morning of the game - when he was cleared to play and cast removed. I'm guessing here, but assumed the coaches limited what we has going to do in the game -- didn't have his normal drives or takes.

In the game, one of their 3 point specialists Seyler went something like 0-8 or 0-9 for the game, on some pretty open looks. I want to say GVC was hitting something crazy like 40%+ of their 3pt shots for the season (not positive on that).

East Marshall could give them a game when their transfer from Grinnell becomes eligible.

I know it doesn't factor into this year. Wanted to mention, I saw East Marshall's 8th grade boys play at a tourney last weekend and they've got a good group coming up. They beat Urbandale's 8th grade for the tourney win.
