2015-2016 Class 3A Basketball

In central Iowa--really like Pella and Norwalk. When do the BEDS numbers come out though...Norwalk could be back to 4A.

I'm predicting a down year for SE Iowa basketball next year. Keokuk should still be decent as there is talent in the current junior class, but obviously lose a ton to graduation. FM was, I believe, all seniors except for the Chrisman kid and I don't know what they may or may have coming up from the JV team. Mt. Pleasant should be much-improved, but as they'll still be mostly sophomores I'm guessing a year away from being very good. In answer to the original question, probably no legit state tournament contenders from this area.

Watching these teams play this year I'd definitely give the nod to Keokuk...very athletic players. FM is going to be the sleeper along with Fairfield. Mt Pleasant..not sold on that group...I'd say Mt Pleasant and Washington battle for the bottom. Pella will be the team to beat in Southern Ia..

Earvin32....you obviously don't watch SE Iowa teams ..enough said .....see you next year

No shot Fairfield is better than MP next year. In a down conference I think Keokuk squeaks by Ft. Madison and Mt. Pleasant with Wash And Fairfield battling for not last.

Pella and Chariton will be the best two teams in south but as always any Little Hawkeye team can make a run. DCG Norwalk and Grinnell will as always be in the playoff hunt. Centerville will re-emerge next year too but no telling if they'll stay 3A.

I believe MP beat Fairfield twice this past season, with 3-4 FR starting for MP. Also MP's JV and FR teams faired pretty well against the rest of the SEC with the best 4 players in the program being FR and starting V. Unless the other schools are getting move-ins or foreign exchange kids, MP is the best team in the SEC. Most of MP's V freshmen are going to be playing AAU or attending team/individual camps as BB is their main sport. I doubt many players in the SEC will outwork them in the off-season.

I would disagree with the notion that they will be the best, but I definitely think they'll be better than Washington and Fairfield.

SpiritLake, moc and heelan all have some pretty good young guys back and SBL will be on the small side again but have everybody back next year. They did not have a great over all record but did record wins vs Lemars, CBAL, and almost got Spirit Lake.

dont know if any have the horses to take out Walert but they will all be pretty good again next winter.

Keokuk lost everything with Dahl, Ailes-Jones, and Davis.

Who is the talent in the Keokuk junior class?

Joel Howren 6.7 ppg
Sean Longshore 3.3 ppg
Noah Dunlap 2.2 ppg
Kolton Martin 1.5 ppg

Mount Pleasant and four of their top returning scorers who will be sophomores next year and a state champion coach in Rundquist = another SE Iowa title.

Not that it needs to be said, but LeMars will probably struggle next season. In Irwin's time at LCHS, the Bulldogs always seem to reload no matter what they lose, so there is every bit of a chance that it happens again. However, looking at who is leaving and who is coming up, I just don't see how they can come close to matching this season's group. It will take some growth spurts to begin with, as the underclassmen are pretty undersized. They have the skill, though. So we will see.

Spirit Lake should be great if they can replace a couple of hot outside shooters, which shouldn't be that difficult. I would say they're probably the favorite in NW Iowa.

MOC-FV always has a great team. Heelan will be another year older. And watch out for SBL. They're always sneaky, but they could surprise this upcoming season.

Waverly loses Velky but probably return their next 5 best players, and there is no shortage of talent coming through that school when it comes to basketball, and Phyfe is only going to get better, he still has a long ways to go in his physical development.

Tecmo, I'm expecting Howren and Longshore especially to step up their scoring next year. They'll get many more shots without the players you mentioned being there. And, I'm sort of torn on Mt. P, to be honest. Yes, they played a ton of freshmen this year, but I actually wasn't that impressed with them. I don't think those freshmen were playing varsity because they're that good; I think they were playing varsity simply because Mt. P had a total of three upperclassmen in the whole program.

In NW Iowa you need to watch MOC, Spirit Lake and Spencer. Spencer has everyone back from a very solid team. Any team with Levi Jansen on it needs to be in the discussion. MOC has the majority of its core players back from a top ten team this year. Spirit Lake has two of the areas best players on the roster along with some other rugged front court players. Also, sounds like Bishop Heelan has two new transfers in that will upgrade last years team. SBL was a good young team last year and their core is still in place.

Hopefully state is smart enough to split up what appears to be two top ten teams in MOC and Spirit Lake.

Agree with your analysis...Keokuk is the team to beat in SE Ia. Pella in the Central, Waverly north, MOC NW.

Hmmm... that would be interesting if it is who i think...

Heard rumors that they might be getting a kid from Hinton for FB & BB.

Rumors unnecessarily stir the pot. IMO transfers should only be reported when a kid is enrolled at a new school. Worrying about "he said she said" is a waste of time and energy.
