2014 Dowling Catholic

If you're not mistaken, Solon has been 2A or 3A and Regina have been 1A or 2A. Dowling is 4A. Obviously Dowling would CRUSH those teams that have dominated lower classes in the past. Do you not know of Ryan Boyle? Best player in the state right now. I'm surprised that SEC schools haven't seriously recruited this guy because he is a stud!

reminds me somewhat of the Valley team with Clauss, Shelton, Woodley etc.

I am going to go out on a limb and say with a capital N and a capital O that NO is the answer.

I would put last year's Dowling Catholic team up against any of the previous state champions.

People look at the returning players Dowling has coming back (Boyle -- Iowa, Morris -- Northern Illinois, Wilson -- Western Illinois, plus Jo Jo Jok) and forget Dowling lost a lot of top players from last year's team. Dowling lost John Swisher, who led the state with 17 sacks and also had 30 tackles for a loss, leading receiver Rico Gafford and all 3 starting linebackers.

I agree with that. A good lesson to learn, put all the wins up before looking at yourself as the best ever. I follow a team that learned that earlier this year.

If Boyle goes to the SEC then Lombardi can just skip college and go to the pros.

Please, SEC? You should travel down to Texas...Boyle is a D2 guy at best in Texas.

Boyle is already 215. Sounds more like a Greenway type to me.

At 6'1-2 tall it will be hard to pack in much more strength in his frame. He will either be a John Lowdermilk type or a Josey Jewell type.

I've seen hs football in Texas. Boyle would be by no means "a D2 guy at best in Texas".

Simmons didn't have a great game statistically, but he is a better QB than Boyle IMO. Give Simmons the athletes Boyle has and he is getting recruited by high D1 schools.

don't forget though that Boyle lost Dowell and Christian to sell the run, and not only Gafford but also Magruder and Steenblock.

I am sure Dowling lost some good players. It appears that they replaced them fairly successfully. When comparing their other kids to LC it wasn't close.

He is not a D1 QB....

You mean the team that lost to Dowling in the first round of the '98 playoffs? Yeah, they were real world beaters...

But, as a Dowling student at the time, certainly one of the more memorable moments of my high school career.

He wasn't recruited as a QB...

He is Drew Tate size which is considered small for a QB. He doesn't have the arm to be a FBS QB. He will probably redshirt like Jay Scheel from LPC and work at a few different positions while the coaches determine where he will fit in best. I think WR, S, CB, and LB are most likely and in that order. When I watch him run it reminds me of Andy Brodell.

They had 8 guys go play Division 1 football on that team, they really were world beaters. Ask Swenson and I bet he says this is the best team that he has ever had. They beat Dowling 42-14 to open the year and did not have a close game all season. The game was neutralized big time due to the rain and mud at the old Valley Stadium. A "not as good" Valley team came back and beat a better Dowling team the next year 31-8 to go to the dome.
