So Assumption elects to drop a class, which they have the correct enrollment to do so. But, they don't have a football field so now when you travel to Assumption you have to play on a Thursday night. I am sure it has been that way for many years for them, but that's their problem. Highschool Regular season football is Friday nights. Not a huge deal as both teams will get same rest, healing time etc, but kind sucks for teams traveling on week night when they play them. I know metro schools do it every year but, Come On Man!!

I see playing on Thursday nights as an opportunity....to have your entire coaching staff scout the next week's opponent the following night.

Regina doesn't need to take advantage of this. They have 17 coaches on their staff, so they can spare 11 to go scout opponents while they beat up on whoever they're playing that night.

Of course that's only if Regina feels like scouting. They're usually good enough that they don't even need to.

I heard this year they got FAA clearance and bought a black hawk helicopter to hover over the field of their next opponent and film the game.

With internet based film trade (Hudl) I'm not sure how many, if any coaches scout in person anymore. If so it's probably just to watch and get a feel of an opponent.

It's still better to have a coach scout the game in person to see things that would not show up on an internet feed.

The internet based scouting (Hudl) is where teams upload their own video. The upcoming opponents will see the same video as the head coach of his own team. Your not watching a video streaming of a game. Intercut video ( press box view and end zone view) are petty typical. You can rewind any play as much as you wish.

Unless Assumption has two home games in a row - then they get an extra day of rest.

Have to correct a point that the OP made - two of the four home games for Assumption are on Thursday nights - the other two are Friday nights. The two Thursday games are against Bettendorf (15 minute drive) and CR Xavier (a little over one hour drive). I am not sure I understand what point the OP is trying to make other than I guess Assumption doesn't have a stadium to call their own..

I think Assumption (and other Davenport schools) are like some of the CR Metro teams utilize Kingston for their games.

Vroom - you are correct. All of the Davenport schools to include Assumption play at Brady St. Stadium. As you mention Cedar Rapids schools share Kingston Stadiumm so they do have games other than Friday nights. I am not sure about Dubuque schools - thought I heard taht some of them share a stadium also.

I had heard that Assumption and St. Ambrose are attempting to build a sports complex which would include a football field.

Hempstead and Senior share Dalzell Field in Dubuque, on Senior's campus. They just opened it back up last season after renovations, and it is spectacular. It's a lot easier to work out sharing when you only have two teams to consider, though ... Kingston has to share between Jefferson, Washington and Kennedy while Brady St. has Assumption, North, West and Central to schedule with.

Wahlert plays at the Rock Bowl on the Loras College campus, so they have no impact on Dalzell Field usage.

cid - just to set the record straight, St. Ambrose has proposed building a new Stadium (not Assumption and St. Ambrose). If it is built (which prolly will not be completed before 2016 or 2017), Assumption would play their home games at that stadium.

I think Regina should share Kinnick...

Sounds like an uphill battle on that one. Gone are the days of playing at John O'Donnel where you had grass, dirt, mud, turf, gravel an elevated foul line all on the playing surface. The fans enjoyed the beer sales though.

Wonder why Cornell and Mt.Vernon don't share, or why Coe doesn't share with some of the CR schools...

VROOM : Thought I heard that Cornell and Mt. Vernon were talking about it but it didn't happen. Not sure why. Seems to make good sense. Lewis Central High School and Iowa Western CC split the cost to put in turf at Lewis Central's field for both teams to use.

Thought that a alum offered up roughly 100k for lights so they could share but someone nixed the plan? Just rumor I heard.

I don't think Coe would work out at all. If you think the parking and seating at Xavier is bad, go take a look at Coe's field. Granted they have new field turf, but the seating is much smaller that most 3A schools and the parking is horrible. Everyone would have to park blocks away from the field
