More importantly:

I find it interesting people are able to serve on this committee who aren't even full-time employees at the paper listed. One I know of is nothing more than a stringer...

I know this team is about stats and size.
I really don't no where you put him on the 1st list but Tanner Knupp was one of the best all round players I've seen for a while and i'll bet Osky,Pella and Solon fans would agree.
This has nothing to do with the kids on 1st team they probably all deserve it but Tanner should be on it easy.

You're saying Knupp should be on 1st team instead of Covington?

We'll I'm glad you are finally making a statement based on what you saw and not what you heard from someone else. Washington had a great season and they were rewarded with 3 players on the first team and you should be happy about that. Tanner did make the second team, which is quite an honor and ridiculous to complain about. This Pella fan does not agree with you!

Covington lead the no.2 team in the state in tackles so no.
Congratulation to your son for his honor a very good football player.

Knupp is a good player, one of the better ones in a while - no. Nothing personal, just a good athlete on a good team.

That's very well put Ginger.I can't argue that I just really enjoyed watching his energy on the field I was thinking utility but that was JMO and that what Luke ask for.

Everybody have a Great Thanksgiving and Good Luck in winter sports

Good discussions. Without Knupp, Washington wouldn't have had all the success they did. His stats and size may not amount to all-state recognition or even a college scholarship level but his heart and ability to change a game with his desire did. That is why it is so hard to determine who should be on these teams.

It is impossible for all the voters to know every kid's talent, heart, attitude, and value to their team. Some of the stories leak out as teams move further into postseason play so I think that is why players that finish at the dome have a higher likelihood of getting the recognition. When people don't know all of the particulars all they can go on is individual and team stats so that is how they vote right or wrong. There also seems to be an influence of how much coaches, parents, etc. toot their own kids horn even though at times they are over biased.

There is a very good linebacker at Osky that didn't get a mention on any of the teams. His tackle stats were very legitimate in comparison to how some teams record stats and he ranked near the top in 3A. However, he is probably left off due to a team not advancing quite far enough and from a team that gave up too many points and yards as a whole even though he was a great player and incredible teammate and leader for the team. Although this kid is disappointed and even a little angry he will move forward and will get better, not bitter and be a great college player at some level. Doesn't mean we still don't feel bad for him though even though I am not his parent.

Good post FarmFam a person just don't see a kid make a key lead block on one play and then run a post route on next play for a TD or Plug a hole for no gain and then cover a guy 30 yards down field for an Int. next play plus be a very good kick returner. It just seem like every time Washington had a big play this kid was involved some way.
Would be a Coaches dream.

I know exactly who you're referencing, and I will go on record to agree with you, FarmFam. He was fast and aggressive, and always around the ball, usually in on the tackle, downfield, other side of field, etc. I was very impressed with him. Does his name rhyme with Mason Wisse?

I agree! Knupp should of been on 1st team easily.. Solon pretty much shut down Coker. If Knupp didn't have that last Td.. Washington most likely wouldn't have made it on to the finals. Coker, Knupp , Sivels and QB were pretty much Washington's offense.. They really didn't have anyone else that stepped up..

With the top running game in 3A exactly who else did you expect to step up? By looking at quikstats it looks like the QB Sebelius accounted for approx.35% of the offense if you include the Heelan game(per IAHSAA stats)plus in that type of offense made the reads to get the ball in the right persons hands.....maybe I missed it somewhere but I've seen no mention of him on the INA,Iowa Preps or Sports Spotlight teams yet he directed them to the finals? How about the offensive line outside of the Peterson kid? To lead 3A in rushing I'd guess they were pretty good all the way across the board and "stepped up" on a weekly basis?

To shutout Pella @ Pella in the quarterfinals and then make the finals I'd say the entire team stepped it up after the loss to Pella in week 2 or they wouldn't have been there.
