Not one player from District 1 on first team? Really?? Andrew Van Ginkel is a top 5 player in the state in Class 2-A.

This!!!! He may be the best player in 2A. What about O'Donnell, Rozeboom?

I agree he's probably the best athlete/player. But Neary threw for almost twice as many yards and did have more than twice as many touchdowns as Scheel this season. And Scheel only outrushed Neary, 493-276, with Neary holding a 9-7 edge in rushing touchdowns.

Talent definitely weighs into my decision when looking at this, but so does production. And Scheel didn't have anywhere near as good of a year.

Scheel also did not have the supporting cast that Neary did. Everyone is snubbed somehow and not all of these can be perfect in everyone's eyes. Nevertheless, congrats to everyone who earned postseason honors and are entering their next sporting season or preparing for the next chapter in the life/career.

I watched both Van Ginkel and Neary this season. Without a doubt VG is the better QB and Athlete.

Ertz's numbers were better than Scheel's last year but Scheel still was the 1st team QB. I disagreed with it, but the best statistical leader doesn't always win.

Post Season Recognition is not tied to potential college success, Kid might avg. 24 in hoops and be all state, but another kid avgs. 14 but has an upside for college, so the kid from Union does not have the #s to be all state but the skills to play D1, to earn post season gotta have better stats , but not a better player; right wrong or indifferent a sad fact.

Would you rather be all
State or play in college?

I saw them both as well. Gink had so much less talent than a year ago. Everybody was keying on him and he still couldn't be stopped. Van Ginkel will be a stud WR/OLB at the next level.

Scheel is clearly the better athlete, but with his performance this year he certainly didn't deserve 1st team recognition. Between less talent around him and his knees bothering him all season after his off season surgery, he simply didn't put up the numbers or look as dominant as he did last season.

Seems there is a little bit of a NW Iowa snub IMHO.

Only saw the Rhoads kid once, I am an ISU fan and l love his dad! But how does the kid make any all state with his stats and same with the Greene kid from NP, kid from PCM at least had some stats

I don't know what the procedure is to vote on football all-state, but I know baseball is often dependent on coaches showing up to the meeting. If there weren't many coaches from NW present, then it's tough to get kids from that region on all-state because the people who might have actually seen them aren't there to lobby for them. Coaches will take stats into consideration, but if it comes down to two guys with similar stats and the coach only saw one of them and no one stood up for the other guy, that coach will almost always vote for the guy he saw.

Peyton Paddock a Junior, listed in 2A 3rd team as a Senior had numbers very similar or even better than the 1st and 2nd team kickers. And was selected 1st team in both the Des Moines Register and Sports Spotlight All-State Teams. Was just curious how he dropped bellow both of these kickers in the INA All State.
