1A Substates- Scores and Comments

Does the IAHSAA have any rules about cascading postponements or requirements for rest days? For example, the first district game in 1A-11 was postponed twice so instead of being played Monday night will be played tonight (Wednesday). Which means the winner turns around and plays tomorrow night (Thursday). Would they ever postpone the next game so a team is not playing back-to-back nights, or is just "tough luck"?

I'd guess it's just "tough luck". We played back to back nights 5 times this year, a couple because of make ups. I'd be surprised if the teams involved didn't play back to back at least once or twice. I suppose it's possible the State pushes a game back a night, but not likely.

Baxter 53, Sigourney 52 in OT

Will Clapper was fouled on a shot in the lane to cut Sigourney lead to 1 with 3.6 sec left. Missed the and1, but Carter Nelson got the rebound and hit a hook from about 6 feet as the buzzer sounded.

Baxter lead the entire game until about .5 left in regulation. Went down by 2 ten seconds into OT, retook the lead almost immediately, then led until Sigourney tied it with less than a minute left in OT, then took the lead with 12 seconds left.

Thursday 1A scores:

Grand View Christain 75, M-Udell 13
George Little Rock 85, MMCRU 42
Grundy Center 68, Gladbrook-Reinbeck 53
Montezuma 63, Colo-Nesco 20

Interestingly, with one game left to play tonight, there have been only 2 upsets in the district quarter-final games (according to BCMoore ratings), both in District 10:
  • #67 Grundy Center over #47 Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 68-53
  • #59 Hudson over #45 Meskwaki Settlement, 46-37
So only 2 upsets out of 63 games. I guess that's somewhat to be expected as these should be pairings of disparate teams.

A couple of really close calls that would have been big upsets (again, according to BCMoore):
  • District 9: #75 Baxter gets by #94 Sigourney 53-52 in OT (as mentioned above by SSG T)
  • District 5: #18 Don Bosco squeaks by #100 East Buchanan 62-61. Wow. BCMoore had DB predicted to win by 26.
