1A Substate Winners???

Let's see who everyone has going ON TO STATE!!! I hope tomorrow has as many upsets as last night, but I don't see it happening. Last night was kinda like the 1st weekend of March Madness and then the 2nd weekend chalk usually takes over. That's what I think will happen in tomorrow's substate games.

RStM vs SOB - SOB wins an ugly one again.
Bishop Garrigan vs Janesville - Garrigan wins easily 70-52
Dunkerton vs POP - Dunkerton holds on to win down the stretch 63-59
Alburnett vs WACO - Don't really have a clue on this one, but I will take Alburnett. Winner gets GVC.
Monte vs Grundy - Monte by 10
GVC vs MT - GVC wins, but its closer than it should be. GVC by 25
ACA vs ST A - A couple of weeks ago I was picking ST A, but I have changed my mind after watching what ACA did to a good Earlham team. ACA by 15

MT played them about as good as anyone has so far in 1A this season. Just too many athletes. IHSSA needs to do something about these schools that recruit under the guise of academics. They are running a basketball academy there......

This is a rare occasion where the anti-parochial school people are actually correct.

The only thing is if GVC wants to build this elite boys basketball program....they should probably get out of Class 1A.

(btw I say boys because their girls program is basically in the exact opposite situation).

Couldn’t agree more....and I’m not against private schools at all. GVC IS a boys basketball academy! Play 4a or just be a travel team that plays around the country.

There is a big difference between schools like GVC and your typical private schools like Assumption, Columbus or Algona Garrigan.

Wow weak schedules have really hurt some good teams this years. Ankeny Christian falls to a solid St Alberts team. I wonder who the 2 Seed will be at this point

I would say SOHS if they come back if not it’s between Sioux central and Garrigan for 2 and 3 if they both win tomorrow

I would give the 2 seed nudge to Sioux central as a reward for more consistent play through out the year for the 2 seed. My seeding, If the rest of the games are won by the better teams go as follows: 1.Grandview Christian 2. Sioux Central 3. Garrigan 4. Prince of Peace 5. Montezuma 6. Council Bluff st Alberts 7. Remsen 8. Alburnette. Knowing the state though they’ll just seed based on how many wins you have and not look at strength of schedule or anything like that at all

Coaches do that but in the end it’s a panel of people who decide. I’m sure they take coaches seeding into consideration a little bit though. At least that’s what I was told by a coach of a team that has made the tournament and has a good shot at this year in class 3A
