Yay, I get to watch the game after all.

I know BC Moore says North Linn plays a super easy schedule, but it is starting to show early. It is very early, but Don Bosco is running with them. We could have a couple good semifinal games today. I am sticking with my picks of the popular North Linn, and Grandview.

Don Bosco came ready, however now that North Linn has settled in Don Bosco seems to be very nervous. If they dont stop the bleeding soon, North Linn will win by 40.

It will be interesting to see NL against GV or RSM -- teams that have more athletic basketball players who understand how to beat the pressure. Probably the best thing NL did was give up a few easy buckets at the beginning, lulling DB into some quick passes as NL adjusted their pressure.

Grandview has to beat RSM first, but I think Issa Smake staying out of foul trouble will be key. I think Grandview can run with NL, and Samake can block fast break layups, but if he gets in foul trouble NL has a great chance of running the table.

Samake is an impressive athlete but extremely raw, and he is still learning how to play smart. He is a project that could potentially turn into a great investment... or not. He is not a can't-miss prospect, in my opinion, though I admit that I've only watched a portion of his last two games.

I can't understand the inconsistency between officiating crews. If the kids have know idea what a foul is how are they supposed to play the game confidently

That officiating was a joke. I get they're human and not an easy task. I'm really curious how they are selected for state. This year, I've witnessed a couple of excellent crews at the district level that were consistent and were so much better than the crap seen so far.

Do they all look older and have connections to the boone nozzle gang? If so that may be how they are selected.

The refs we had for our two games at districts (1A in Madrid/North Polk) were far and away the best refs we had all year (which is as it should be IMO). In many of our games, the refs could barely handle the athleticism of the girls game, during the boys games they were so far behind with the calls it was a shock when they made a proper call. Not so in districts, they (generally) didn't make a call if there was no advantage.

A friend of mine came to one of our conference games. He's friends with North's and Hoover's coaches and sees a lot of CIML games. He was shocked at some of the calls (and no calls) that were made in our game.

I asked a ref about post-season assignments about a month ago. He said you put your name in to ref post-season, but then it's an absolute mystery to the refs as to who gets chosen and why. Secretive process it seems...

If you have a 3 man bald team - you'll get in! My son says they actually are the most consistent referees and work with the players. Of course the other teams might disagree.
From what I see, the district and substate games were called more loosely than at state. Seems like they tighten up the calls in 1a - 3a at state. Not sure if it is because they are under greater scrutiny from those that assign games at state - not sure.
Just my observations - can't imagine personally calling a perfect game as a ref, grateful for those who are willing to work at their craft. You can tell the ones who do.
