G-R looked impressive again. Smoldt is a great player and only a sophomore. G-R's defense won that game, they stopped Earlham from getting to the rim and made them shoot which they didn't do well.

On a side note, Earlham's pep band was the best I have seen down here. They were rocking out all game.

I was told Pleasant Valley took 4 buses down to the tournament. I assume that included the pep band. If so, that is easily the most impressive pep band I have seen.

That was one of the two games I had to miss. Darn real world responsibilities.

+1 on Earlham's Pep band

Good game both teams played hard on defense, not great shooting by either team.

Earlham had to shoot like they're used to from deep to stay with G-R and they have not done that all tournament. Was a good game, it coulda been better as I don't think either team had great offensive games. But it also coulda been worse. Huge props to G-R a well disciplined, respectful and talented team.

I agree the refs were quite inconsistent and I don't know who assigns these guys. It's not the reason a team won or lost this game, but there was some calls out of left field. I swear pierce got called for grazing a kids jersey. Neither him nor Hopkins ever really figured out what style a game it would be.

With most of the Earlham team struggling to shoot the ball (except Alan Schmidt) & Schmidt being closely guarded, I was surprised that Earlham didn't run any sets to get him coming off of staggered screens to open up the outside shot in the 4th quarter. Then again, if that's not in your playbook it's kind of hard to just draw it up & throw it in during the late stages of a State Semifinal game. GR made a nice adjustment to keep A. Schmidt in check the 2nd half.

The title game should be a good one.
