Q&A with North Polk running back BJ Tate

How did the high school football season go overall?
“I felt the season went pretty well, we had great team chemistry and our coaches were great. There was a lot that went well but ultimately, we fell a bit short in the semifinals. But overall I felt it was a pretty good season.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now during the offseason I am working out every day at school and sometimes at home. I am also training at D1 Apex to work on my technique. As for other sports, I will be playing 7v7 and running track.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We lost a lot of seniors who were really talented and played major roles in our team’s success. However, I believe we have returning juniors and sophomores who have lots of talent and can fill those roles. We also have a great coaching staff. I believe we will do just fine next season.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“There are a lot of teams who are also losing a lot of seniors as well so I really don’t know what to expect from certain teams. However, our school’s main “rivals” are ADM and Ballard. They are always pretty good so I feel like those will be our toughest games of the year.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I’m not sure who the best individual player we will play against is. There were lots of really good seniors that graduated in our conference so there will be lots of new players that I really don’t know much about. There could be multiple breakout players that we don’t even know about yet so I really don’t know at the moment.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would like to play football in college.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I currently have one offer from Graceland. I have received Junior Day invites from Drake University, Princeton, St. Thomas, Upper Iowa, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and Central Missouri. Iowa State also came to talk to me and my friend during school.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“As of right now I would say Graceland because they are the only school that has offered this far; but besides that I would either say Drake or St. Thomas.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have gone on a couple of game day visits to Drake, Iowa central, and Waldorf. I also attended Princeton’s Virtual Junior Day. I will attend more but these are the colleges I have visited so far.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I plan to go to Drake on April 6th. That is the only locked visit for me as of right now. I also plan on attending Central Missouri and St. Thomas’s Junior Days as well.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“My primary position is running back but I also play slot receiver.”

Q&A with Algona slot receiver Evan Allie

How did the high school football season go overall?
“We finished 6-4 with 3 disappointing losses to highly ranked teams all being decided by 8 points or less.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I’m currently running track this time of year but during the summer I’m definitely in the weight room working to get better as well as going to a couple of football camps this season.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I have a strong feeling that we will be stacking up wins this 2024 football season as well as being one of the best teams in class 3A.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I feel the toughest team on our schedule this year will definitely be the clear lake lions. Last year we lost to them by 1 point while they were the #1 ranked team in class 3A.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The toughest individual player we will play this year would be Thomas Myer. He’s a great athlete and was highly recruited up until he committed to Iowa.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would love to play sports in college. I would love to compete in track and football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I’m going to do track throw, run a couple hundreds and probably long jump but I’m still going to be doing off-season lifting and training.”

Basketball Thread

Haven't really watched anybody but Bama so far, but this team isn't a threat at all to be the #1 overall seed like last year's team.

Should be good enough to be a tournament team, maybe even in the 4-6 seed range, but there's a pretty good dropoff from last year's team. Offensively this team will occasionally get hot and light some teams up, but the defense is going to be a YUGE dropoff from last year. You can't replace the Miller/Clowney/Bediako length with smaller and slower players and not have a drop off.

I don't want to read too much into a single early season loss, but this team has a lot of growing to do if they want to make any noise.

On this Holy Saturday…

amongst all the worldly chaos and BB excitement, perhaps take time to reflect on this thought by Bishop Barron;

It comes down finally to this: if Jesus was not raised from death, Christianity is a fraud and a joke. But if he did rise from death, then Christianity is the fullness of God’s revelation, and Jesus must be the absolute center of our lives. There is no third option.

Biden's physical...

Thought this was pretty good... The Bee has some damn fine reporters who nabbed a copy of his doctor's report.

President Joe Biden underwent his annual physical exam, and despite evidence to the contrary, he is apparently still alive. That's not the only startling discovery that came out of the exam, however.

The Babylon Bee has obtained copies of the medical record and can now reveal the following surprise findings:

  1. He arrived with his stool sample already in his pants: The doctor appreciated the president's initiative.
  2. The suspicious mole on his arm turned out to just be melted chocolate ice cream: This was discovered when he licked it off mid-exam.
  3. There was a crayon up his nose that's been pressing on the frontal lobe of his brain this whole time: Well, that explains a lot!
  4. There's a tapeworm living in Biden's intestines that he nicknamed "Barack": Sounds about right.
  5. His lungs are half-filled with hair from young girls: Stop sniffing so hard, Joe!
  6. He's under the impression that his wife is a doctor: Poor guy.
  7. His carotid arteries are 98% blocked with chocolate chip ice cream: Two percent of blood reaching the brain - not bad.
  8. His cognitive ability is the best of any president in history: Wait a minute...
  9. There are currently three different types of dementia warring for supremacy in his brain: It's anybody's ball game!
All in all, much less concerning than anyone would have predicted. He's still every bit as fit to lead as Jimmy Carter!
