Algona beats CL 8-6 last night, they go at it again tonight in Algona. Anyone know who pitched for both teams?

Big game tonight in Algona. Conference title up for grabs. Go Bulldogs!

Austin Long pitched the 1st game for Algona and Weston Shaw pitched last night. Tufte (sp) pitched for Clear Lake last night.

Algona has Garrigan tonight and then Webster City for conference games.

Heard they recently scheduled a game with Mason City Newman also.

Clear Lake is at Webster City tonight and hosts Garrigan tomorrow. Their last regular season game is next Tuesday against Crestwood. Clear Lake's only hope is for another close game for Garrigan to go against the Bulldogs to share the conference title with Algona.

Speaking of Clear Lake and Algona, they could potentially meet up in a substate final in a couple of weeks.

Clear Lake will collide with Webster City on 7/18 at 7:00 in Clear Lake. The winner of that game will play the winner of Ballard and Humboldt game being played 7/18 at 5:00. That game will take place on 7/21 at 7:00 in Clear Lake.

On the other side of the Substate 2 bracket, Algona will open with Nevada on 7/18 at 5:00 in Boone. The other game is Boone vs Gilbert, which will be played on 7/18 at 7:00 in Boone. Winners of both games will play each other on 7/21 at 7:00 in Boone.

The Substate 2 final will be played on 7/23 at 7:00 at a site yet to be determined.

Looking quite good for a 3A NCC representative heading down to Principal Park at the end of the month.

Webster City 5 Clear Lake 4
Algona 6 Bishop Garrigan 5 (8) (Bulldogs clinch NCC title)
Clarion-Goldfield 6 Eagle Grove 1
Clarion-Goldfield 10 Eagle Grove 6 (8)
Hampton-Dumont 6 Iowa Falls-Alden 2

7/10 scores:
Clear Lake 9 Bishop Garrigan 4
Clarion-Goldfield 6 Northeast Hamilton 5
Newman Catholic 12 Algona 8 (10)
Hampton-Dumont 11 North Butler 0 (5)

Geesh I can honestly say I didnt see EG playing for state on Tuesday, as far as I can tell they are riding one arm to get to this point hopefully he keeps it going, theyve beat some decent teams to get to this point.

SE only lead for 1/2 inning the entire game. I saw a little bit of everything in this game .One come back followed by another comeback late in the game. 3 great defensive plays (especially one at second base that was almost ESPN worthy.) And also some pretty basic fundamental errors on both sides that allowed runs to be scored on both sides. Big difference in the game in my opinion was number of base runners. While SE outhit SEV, SEV did not walk a Gael batter till the 7th inning, whereas the SE pitching gave up a number of walks. SEV had more LOB than SE by the end of game.
First meeting this year between these two went extra innings, and last nights game was decided in the 7th. Each team winning one game......pretty evenly matched in my eyes. Kinda hard to believe, but SE bows out with a losing record this year 15-16.
Future should be good for both teams. While the seniors were leaders for both teams, LOTS of underclassmen coming back as starters.

Postseason scores from the last few nights:

Bishop Garrigan 7 Alta/Aurelia 2

The Golden Bears advance to play #2 Newman Catholic, who defeated Lake Mills 9-4, on Tuesday in Algona.

Southeast Valley 7 St. Edmond 5

The Eagles advance to play #8 South Winneshiek, who defeated New Hampton 7-4, on Tuesday in Mason City.

Clear Lake 9 Webster City 2

Humboldt 6 Ballard 1

The Lions advance to play the Wildcats on Monday in Clear Lake.

Algona 11 Nevada 1 (6)

The Bulldogs advance to play Gilbert, who defeated Boone 4-1, on Monday in Boone.

The winners of CL/Humboldt and Algona/Nevada will play on Wednesday at a site yet to be determined.

Humboldt 4 Clear Lake 3

The Lions end their season at 30-6.

Algona 8 Gilbert 7

The Bulldogs and Wildcats will play for the Class 3A Substate 2 championship on Wednesday in Algona at Bishop Garrigan's field.

Maybe not the cleanest played game but a fun one to watch with all the scoring action.

Bulldogs responded to Gilbert with a six run 3rd to pull within one. Algona tied the game with a wild pitch in the 4th and won it on a walk off throwing error (pitcher overthrew first base after a dink hit in front of the plate) that allowed the runner to score all the way from second.

The the scoring run reached first base on a HBP with two out and advanced to second on a passed ball, setting up the winning sequence.

Good luck to all the rest of the way.

South Winneshiek 11 Eagle Grove 1 (5)

The Eagles end their season at 10-19.

Newman Catholic 5 Bishop Garrigan 0

The Golden Bears end their season at 21-17.

Both Eagle Grove and Bishop Garrigan are off to the NIC conference. Good luck to both teams in the future!

Algona 3 Humboldt 2

The Wildcats end their season at 23-7.

The Bulldogs advance to the State Tournament as the #7 seed in the Class 3A bracket. They will play #2 seed Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Tuesday at 6:00 in Des Moines.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton 2 Algona 1

A throwing error in the bottom of the sixth inning did the Bulldogs in after tying the game in the top half of the inning on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs end their campaign at 27-8.

It also officially puts an end to another successful NCC baseball season.
