What are your thoughts on this stuff?

The first three recommendations approved were from the Football Advisory Committee:

1) The Iowa Football Coaches Association agreed to create new protocols and procedures for film exchange. The IHSAA has no policies regarding film exchange and any issues regarding the ethics of film exchange are to be directed to the IFCA. The IHSAA merely puts these protocols and procedures in the regular season and post season manuals.

2) 8 Player schools that use a field that is normally for 11 player teams are now required to use the NFHS dimensions of an 8 player field which is 80 yards long by 40 yards long. Tape or some other device will need to be put down on the field in order to make the dimensions appropriate for the 8 player field.

3) The IHSAA will reinstate trophies to those schools that lose their second round contest. All schools qualifying for the post season will receive a banner. Those schools that lose their first round contest will receive medals. After that, all schools will receive a trophy and medals based on their advancement in the post season. With that being said, schools will not have the opportunity to purchase a trophy through the IHSAA and their company for the previous year in which trophies were not provided.

The following two recommendations came from the Iowa High School Athletic Association:

1) Teams will be limited to 90 minutes per week of "engagement" (a maximum of 30 minutes per day), with the exception of week 2 of the pre season when the 90 minutes per day will be waived. The USA Football terms of "Thud" and "Live Action" are definitions to be used when determining the time frame for engagement. The IHSAA will provide more details regarding this 90 minutes of engagement in the future weeks ahead. Obviously, this does not include interscholastic competition.

2) Players will be limited to 8 quarters of participation per week, with the week beginning on Sunday and ending the following Saturday of each week. The season limit of 14 regular season games has not changed, nor have any of the exceptions regarding counting toward a game due to the 35 point rule or only playing on special teams. Those exceptions still count toward quarter limitations. In addition to the 8 quarters of limitation per week, the amount of quarters that a player can play in one day has been increased from 4 to 5. A student may now play in 5 quarters per day and not be penalized for being an ineligible athlete.

These two items from the IHSAA also will affect the junior high program as well and both will go into affect this fall for junior high programs.
