New Ankeny Head Coach

Looks like Ankeny has hired UNI offensive line coach Rick Nelson to be it's next head coach. Coach Nelson has had success everywhere that he has been and seems like a good hire. I know that his son has been on the Ankeny staff for a few years as well.

I think this is an excellent hire for Ankeny High School. Zelonovich had established an excellent run game during his stint with the Hawks and I see this to continue under their new coach. I am a little surprised to see a move from UNI to Ankeny, but he gets to coach with his son and inherits a wonderful program. Great move on Ankeny's end, look forward to see what they can do moving forward.

Nelson said his son wasn't going to be coaching college and this was going to be the only way they would get to coach together, so he took the position. Kinda puts UNI in a touch spot since it comes right after their spring game.
