With the rest of the tourney field getting started this weekend, I thought it interesting to see who the 'best of the best' were over the past 14 seasons.

It's a pretty elite group in that only 61 teams out of the 350+ schools in Iowa have made it to the finals since 2000. Only 26 have made it more than once.

I'm sure there are plenty of exceptional teams that aren't on this list due to an unexpected loss during a playoff run. Still interesting to see which teams made it through the gauntlet and into the finals.

Please point out any errors, I assembled the list from the stat book and could have inadvertently transposed a result.

Gotta give it to them catlick boys...wow...4 schools in the top 4 for appearances in the championship game. Those boys obviously know a thing or two about playing baseball. (I'm Lutheran but you gotta give credit where credit is due)

I don't think that's necessarily fair. Newman's great at baseball, but not much else. Same for Granville, and they've not even been to state for quite awhile now. Of those top private schools in this sport, only Assumption seems to be good at pretty much everything. Beckman's good at multiple sports, but they also don't reside in a bigger city like Mason City or Davenport (they're the only school in a town of like 4000-5000 people). They're more like a public school than Assumption and Newman are.
